Designer Michael Knight To Attend Starry Night Gala
Project Runway Dress Available for Bid
Live From New York—Making an Appearance at Possible Woman Foundation International Fundraiser September 30th in Atlanta
September 11, 2006, Atlanta, GA-- Possible Woman Foundation International (PWFI), a 501(c)(3) awarding academic scholarships to older women in need, announced that they have secured a special item for use in their fundraising gala. It is a dress, designed by Atlanta’s Michael Knight, the winner of Bravo’s Project Runway episode entitled ‘Waste Not, Want Not’. The dress, which is constructed entirely from recycled materials, is currently on display in New York at Macy’s Herald Square, along with other creations from the show.
It will be flown in especially for use in the Starry Night Gala at 7:30 pm on Saturday, September 30th at the National Museum of Patriotism, 1405 Spring Street, Atlanta, GA. It will be auctioned, along with other items to raise scholarship funds for women who need an extra hand to realize their dreams. Bidding for this item is expected to be brisk, since Michael Knight, who created this winning dress, will be attending, along with his mother who has also appeared on the show.
Myra McElhaney, co-chair of 2006 Starry Night Gala, said, “PWFI is sure that this year’s gala will exceed our goals, both for ticket sales and funds raised. Project Runway is a great show with a loyal following and having a dress by an Atlanta designer that has done so well on the show will help attract people to our event. Having someone as high profile as Michael Knight lend his support will definitely help us reach our goals. We know folks will want to see him and his creation, and they’ll learn more about our mission in the process.”
“We are so grateful to Waste Management Inc., the donor of the dress. We are sure that having it will help us get the word out and encourage people to come and bid to support women’s futures. In fact, to make it easy for everyone to get in on the bidding, we’ll have an online auction for the dress leading up to Saturday night, September 30th when the winner will be determined,” continued Dr. Mary Lou Frank, co-chair of the event with Ms. McElhaney. This dress was first seen in Episode 6, where Bravo led the designers to a Waste Management recycling plant in northern New Jersey for an innovative challenge: make dresses from recyclable materials. Mr. Knight’s creation, shown in the photo below, was the winner of the episode.
Tickets and more information about the event are available at the foundation’s website, www.possiblewomanfoundation.org. For the second year in a row, Waste Management Charitable Foundation will sponsor the gala. Corporate patrons include AT&T; Brooks, McGinnis & Company, LLC; Deer Valley Golf Range; Porter Keadle Moore, LLP; National Distributing Company and Pathbuilders, Inc.
